John Legg's photographs are punctuated by energized landscapes and moments of bliss, by adventure seeking and the lifestyle that it encompasses, and by intuitive light-working capabilities. With history as his main muse, Legg has consistently captured this subject in timeless and expansive photographic impressions, using the study of history to approach the historic Southeast's intricate personality, and then extending out to include the human personalities that drawing meaning from this same source. Searching for historic, fresh, offbeat landscapes, Legg portrays the humble placement of the historic sites to the modernizing world around them.

At just 27 years of age, Legg has spent the last six years seeking out the most influential historic sites within the Southeast, but his recent College on the Move trip facilitated an academic muse to visit and take photographs which lead to this book.

The book includes the writing by Civil War historian Niels Eichhorn, and his descriptive knowledge on Early Republic and Antebellum America. The four sections include Revolutionary Battlefields, Plantations, Cities, and Coastal Fortifications. Coupled with the photographs by John Legg, this team provides an excellent approach at Public History, and the view at the Historic Southeast.

Legg has future plans on a second volume Images of the Historic Southeast: Virginia, after his second installment of the College on the Move program.
